Carpet traditional colonial attachment?

I went to a craft heritage festival last year, and there was a lady making carpets. He was in a colonial mansion, and she said the carpets were found in the storage of the family, and never finished. So it was the use of similar materials, and following the model for end. I guess it was hooked rugs, but I can not remember not call it that. She took a piece of thick wool and pull through the folder to make a small loop, then, on the same piece of wool, just make a loop in the next hole, no knots, no blanks .. She said the fabric was so tight and the wool if thick that it would be retained, and finally the background was clearly felt to walk on it (she showed me the old parts of the room). Is this the same as regular modern carpet attachment? it does not seem like it ... does anyone know if it sounds good? Has anyone hook rug like that? Thank you!

It may be called punch carpet or rug hooking have also heard called by other names that are used only in certain regions. With a hook rug you reach through a hole you make in the fabric, grab the fabric underneath and pull the loops of fabric (or son) through page of the web to make a loop.
